Noncyclic continuous Pancharatnam—Berry phase in dual-beam interference

چکیده

Abstract The geometric phase for classical electromagnetic light beams, in its original formulation as introduced by Pancharatnam, concerns fields experiencing cyclic, discrete in-phase polarization-state changes. A similar was later recognized Berry to govern the behavior of adiabatic quantum systems, with consequent extensions nonadiabatic and noncyclic evolutions state. However, no optical counterpart noncyclic, (continuous) evolution has been demonstrated. Here we employ a modified Young’s two-pinhole setup controlled pinhole polarizations intensities generate on interference an arbitrary continuous spatial polarization state, analogue case. customized arrangement allows separating at any point accumulated dynamical phases from total phase, enabling detailed study Pancharatnam–Berry transformation. Our theoretical experimental results are excellent agreement consistent geodesic rule evolutions.

Combined Noncyclic Scheduling and Advanced Control for Continuous Chemical Processes

A novel formulation for combined scheduling and control of multi-product, continuous chemical processes is introduced in which nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) and noncyclic continuous-time scheduling are efficiently combined. A decomposition into nonlinear programming (NLP) dynamic optimization problems and mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) problems, without iterative alternatio...

Dual-interference-channel quantitative-phase microscopy of live cell dynamics.

We introduce and experimentally demonstrate a fast and accurate method for quantitative imaging of the dynamics of live biological cells. Using a dual-channel interferometric setup, two phase-shifted interferograms of nearly transparent biological samples are acquired in a single digital camera exposure and digitally processed into the phase profile of the sample. Since two interferograms of th...

Continuous-phase elements can improve laser beam quality.

Siegman [Opt. Lett. 18, 675 (1993)] showed that binary-phase plates cannot improve laser beam quality. We demonstrate that continuous spiral phase elements can improve the quality of beams that originate from a laser operating with a pure high-order transverse mode. A theoretical analysis is presented, along with experimental results obtained with a CO(2) laser. The results reveal that a nearly...

Beam alignment and image metrology for scanning beam interference lithography: fabricating gratings with nanometer phase accuracy

We are developing a scanning beam interference lithography (SBIL) system. SBIL is capable of producing large-area linear diffraction gratings that are phase-accurate to the nanometer level. Such gratings may enable new paradigms in fields such as semiconductor pattern placement metrology and grating-based displacement measuring interferometry. With our prototype tool nicknamed “Nanoruler”, I ha...

Continuous $ k $-Frames and their Dual in Hilbert Spaces

The notion of $k$-frames was recently introduced by Gu avruc ta in Hilbert  spaces to study atomic systems with respect to a bounded linear operator. A continuous frame is a family of vectors in a Hilbert space which allows reproductions of arbitrary elements by continuous super positions. In this manuscript, we construct a continuous $k$-frame, so called c$k$-frame along with an atomic system ...
